Michael E. Silver

Michael E. Silver is Senior Vice President, Business and Legal Affairs, for Universal Parks & Resorts. Universal Parks & Resorts is the division of NBC Universal that oversees all of its theme parks, hotels and retail/entertainment locations throughout the world. NBC Universal has interests in recreation destinations in Universal City, California; Orlando, Florida; Osaka, Japan; and Salou (near Barcelona), Spain.

As a business affairs executive for Universal Parks & Resorts, Mr. Silver negotiates and reviews all contracts, new business proposals, acquisitions/divestitures, partnerships and sponsorships for the division. In addition, as its in-house general counsel, Mr. Silver advises on matters involving intellectual property, real estate development, tax, litigation and labor and employment.

Mr. Silver's more specific responsibilities include structuring, negotiating and advising with respect to joint ventures, divestitures, licensing/rights acquisition agreements, and major talent agreements. He also provides legal advice to the marketing and merchandise teams within Universal Parks & Resorts, and supervises litigation matters for the group.

Mr. Silver has been with Universal Parks & Resorts since 1997. He was Director, Contracts and Legal Administration, with Universal Creative from 1997 through 1999, when he was elevated to Vice President, Business and Legal Affair, Universal Parks & Resorts. He was promoted to his current role in 2002. Prior to joining Universal Parks & Resorts, Mr. Silver was an attorney in private practice at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe in Los Angeles and, prior to that, at Dewey Ballantine in New York and Los Angeles. Mr. Silver holds a bachelor of arts degree in government from Harvard University and a Juris Doctor degree from the New York University School of Law, and is admitted to practice law in California and New York.
