C.J. Hirschfield
Executive Director
Children’s Fairyland
Oakland, CA
C.J. Hirschfield currently serves as Executive Director of Children’s Fairyland, where she is charged with the overall operation of the oldest storybook theme park in America.
Hirschfield came to her position at Fairyland in 2002 after a distinguished, 25-year career in the cable television industry, where she was inducted as a Cable Pioneer in 1998. She previously served as Vice President of Industry Affairs at the California Cable Television Association, where she produced an international telecommunications convention for over 33,000 people. She also helped create, and produced the major fundraiser for, the Walter Kaitz Foundation, dedicated to promoting diversity within the management ranks of the cable industry.
For many years, C.J. has volunteered her time in community efforts to promote childhood literacy. She served on the Oakland Library Advisory Commission for four years, acting as the Commission’s Chair for two of those years. C.J. currently serves on the Board of the Oakland Parents’ Literacy Project, which sponsors family reading nights at low-performing Oakland elementary schools. Fairyland’s focus on reading readiness is one of the many things that drew her to the job of Executive Director. C.J. also serves as Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the newly established California Attractions and Parks Association.
C.J. holds a degree in Communications from Stanford University, and lives in Oakland with her husband Doug McKechnie, and daughter Micah.
